About Us

Disabled People’s Organisations Victoria (DPOV) is an open collective of disability led organisations and groups.

We are built on the principle of “nothing about us, without us” — ensuring that people with disability are at the centre of decisions, advocacy and change.

Our members bring diverse lived experiences, perspectives and leadership. Together, we work to build a stronger, united disability movement in Victoria.

“For me, disability is a way of getting some extremity, some kind of very difficult situation, that throws an interesting light on people.”

— Mark Haddon

Our Purpose

We exist to:

  • Champion disability rights and challenge discrimination.

  • Strengthen disability leadership by amplifying voices of lived experience.

  • Advance self-determination for people with disability in all areas of life.

  • Promote inclusion and equality across communities, workplaces and systems.

What We Do

DPOV connects and empowers disability-led organisations to act collectively.
We:

  • Advocate on issues that matter to people with disability.

  • Collaborate with government, service providers and communities to influence policy and practice.

  • Support leadership by creating spaces for people with disability to lead change.

  • Publish position papers and policy statements to represent our collective voice.

  • Run campaigns to raise awareness, challenge inequality, and promote inclusive communities.
